I’ll Always be Older than You

Illustrated by Sara Acton

Published in April 2020 by Hardie Grant Egmont

I remember when I was about four years old realising that even when my little brother got to my age, I would still be older than time. I remember thinking this was quite remarkable, and it made me feel very important of course, and that clearly I would need to mentor him his whole life! When I look back now, I’m not sure that I have him any guidance at all – but we remain great friends and I am very grateful for each of my siblings.

Review by Alexa Dretzke, Readings Books

Being an older sibling can be challenging; patience is required, as the little girl in the book learns.

A little planning doesn’t go astray and so she hops into her little brother’s cot and outlines all the things she will teach him and the activities they will share. Told in verse and accompanied by sweet, simple pictures, this delightful picture book offers a positive, practical and loving look at what early childhood can be like and the huge responsibility of being a big sister. And, of course her little brother will never be older than her, huzzah! For ages 2+.
